A. The Dempsey Challenge has not increased the fundraising minimum since its inception. After researching our current participant's fundraising achievements, we discovered that 70% of adult participants were already exceeding the minimum fundraising goal! With that in mind, and looking at other charity events in Maine, the decision was made to increase the fundraising minimum from $150 to $250 for adult participants only. Young adult participants ages 18 - 23 will stay at a $150 fundraising minimum, while youth participants under 18 years old do not have a fundraising minimum.

A. Yes! The Dempsey Challenge will take place rain or shine. In the case of severe weather conditions, it may be necessary to modify events and activities. If there is a need to communicate changes, we will announce them on the homepage of our website, via email or SMS text message to those who opted in to all participants and volunteers, and on our Dempsey Challenge Facebook page.

A. While we would love to have your furry friend join in the festivities, due to a City of Lewiston ordinance, pets are not allowed. Sorry!

A. The Dempsey Challenge is a ride, not a race and safety is our number one priority. All participants should ride at their own pace, but note that our courses close at 5pm. We recommend that you consider the start time of every ride to be sure that you can finish before then.

A. Absolutely! The Dempsey Challenge weekend is an opportunity for families to come out and unite in the fight against cancer. (Bonus: Youth riders ages 17 & under do not have a fundraising minimum and young adult riders ages 18 to 23 qualify for a reduced fundraising minimum!)

Although there is no age minimum, we want to be clear that Challenge ride routes will be physically demanding. Please carefully take into consideration your child’s abilities when registering them. All child participants must be able to pedal a bike, either their own, or riding tandem with their parent/guardian. Trail-A-Bikes and tandems are allowed. For safety reasons, we cannot allow buggies, sidecars or child seats on the cycle routes. We recommend only experienced cyclists who are at least 16 years old register for the 50-, 65- and 100-mile distance options.

Those under the age of 18 must be registered by a parent or guardian, who will sign the electronic waiver during registration. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult, in addition to submitting the signed waiver.

Youth cyclists ages 17 & under will be required to register and pay the discounted $20 registration fee; there is no fundraising minimum. Although the minimum fundraising level is NOT a requirement for Youth participants, if they are able to raise $150 or more (great job!) they will receive a Dempsey Challenge goodie bag.

Young adults ages 18-23 are also required to register and pay the discounted $20 registration fee; young adults qualify for a reduced fundraising minimum of $150. Young adult participants 18+ must achieve the $150 fundraising minimum requirement by the time of Packet Pickup in order to participate.

If riding, walking, or running isn’t your family’s thing, sign up as a Virtual Challenger and fundraise to make a difference by doing another activity you love together. (Bonus: registration for Virtual Challengers is FREE and there is NO fundraising minimum!)
